What the VantageScore Scale Means
One of the unique features of VantageScore is the scale it uses. Scores range from 501 to 990 in groupings that approximate the familiar academic scale, making it easier for you to understand your score.
901 - 990: A
801 - 900: B
701 - 800: C
601 - 700: D
501 - 600: F
Individual lenders using the VantageScore determine what scores are acceptable to them. They typically look at a number of factors when considering your application. Your VantageScore is one key component.
Interpretation of your score will vary depending on how the lender views it, much like teachers in school have slightly different grading standards. Some teachers might make the cutoff for an “A” at 92, and other teachers might set the cutoff at 88. But as a general rule you know that something over 90 is usually categorized as an “A.”
The same thing is true of the VantageScore. Generally, scores over 900 will be considered an “A.” However, for some lenders, an “A” might be slightly less than 900, while for others it might be a little more than 900.
